Council Business

Hound Parish Council is a group of unpaid public servants. Council meetings are held on the first Monday of the month, except when a Bank Holiday falls on a Monday and the meeting is deferred to the Tuesday immediately afterwards. This is when Members discuss and plan for the parish’s future. If you would like to consider becoming a Councillor and having direct influence over your environment, then please contact the Parish Clerk.

Hound Parish Council owns and manages Abbey Hall, Victoria Road, Netley Abbey and Hound Parish Hall, Woolston Road, Butlocks Heath. In addition, the parish council also has responsibility for Butlocks Heath, the Cricket Field, Station Road and King George V Playing Field recreation grounds. The recreation grounds are provided for the enjoyment of parishioners and visitors, but are also used for sports activities. Currently football and rugby league are played at these recreation grounds, but may also be hired for other organised sports use. Please enquire at the Parish Office for further information and costs.

Two allotment sites are also available, at Priory Road in Netley Abbey and Heath Gardens, Butlocks Heath : calendrier lunaire jardin. Although there are waiting lists for both sites, please contact the Parish Office staff if you wish to add your name to the lists.

The Burial Ground adjacent to St Mary the Virgin church is also provided by Hound Parish Council, which maintains the churchyard area on behalf of the Parochial Church Council.

A Sea Scout unit leases the Boat House from Hound Parish Council, which also owns the Hard and viewing area adjacent to the entrance to the Royal Victoria Country Park. This is a lovely spot to view the cruise liners arriving and departing from Southampton.

Find That Bike

Hampshire Police Recommends www.findthatbike.co.uk. The site sends emails to the registered person to advice of any bike available on Ebay or Gumtree which matches specifics entered by the user (e.g. If a persons bike was stolen they can put in the details of their bike and if one is found on Ebay or Gumtree matching those details, they will be informed.)

It also includes a section where you can check for bike serial numbers (for those thinking of buying to check if stolen) and another where you can report stolen bikes.

Have Your Say

For any council to be successful it is vital that it communicates with its local community. Please let us know your views as they are important to us.

Help needed to “bring alive” the history of Royal Victoria Country Park

Local residents can help uncover the heritage of Royal Victoria Country Park by coming forward with their memories of the site’s former military hospital.

Only the iconic chapel remains from the building which was once the world’s largest hospital, which was a personal project for Queen Victoria who laid its foundation stone.

Now, plans are underway to restore its historic buildings and uncover its hidden stories thanks to £2.68 million from Hampshire County Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The chapel is being renovated and visitors will in Spring/Summer 2017 be able to visit a new exhibition and take tours to the top of the chapel tower.

The grounds will have artistic interpretation and information boards that will give more information and demonstrate the size and length of the hospital through their positioning.

The project manager, Paul Del-A-More, who grew up in Hamble and still lives locally, is keen to hear from local residents who have any personal or family links to the former hospital to come forward to tell their story.

If you run a community group or similar and would like to know more about the project, Paul can also give presentations on the works to the chapel and the park. A number of volunteering opportunities are also available.

Please email paul.delamore@hants.gov.uk or call 01962 846040.
You can find out more about the project by visiting the park’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/RoyalVictoriaCP.

Friend or foe? Over 200 reports of ‘friendly’ fraudster email scam in three days

Fraudsters are turning to kindness with new phishing emails which encourage the recipient to open an attachment on the false premise that they could have already fallen victim to scammers.

In the past three days, Action Fraud has received 226 reports from email users who have this email. The phishing email is sent from a fraudster who describes themselves a “law-abiding citizen” and has accidentally received the email recipient’s personal details. Attached to the phishing email is a document which the fraudster claims contains the recipient’s personal details. The fraudster suggests that the email recipient’s details may have been made available to scammers and they are contacting them to try to rectify the problem. To do so the recipient must open the document.

In reality, the attached document opens the door to malware being downloaded onto the victim’s computer. The malware attempts to obtain sensitive data from victims, such as banking credentials and passwords; this is subsequently used to take money from the victim.

In order to protect yourself from malware, having up-to-date virus protection is essential; however it will not always prevent you from becoming infected.

Protect yourself

• Don’t click on links or open any attachments you receive in unsolicited emails or SMS messages. Remember that fraudsters can ‘spoof’ an email address to make it look like one used by someone you trust. If you are unsure, check the email header to identify the true source of communication.
• Do not enable macros in downloads, enabling the macro will allow the malware to be installed onto your device
• Always install software updates as soon as they become available. Whether you are updating the operating system or an application, the update will often include fixes for critical security vulnerabilities.
• Create regular backups of your important files to an external hard drive, memory stick or online storage provider. It’s important that the device to which you back up isn’t left connected to your computer as any malware infection could spread to that too.
• If you think your bank details have been compromised, you should immediately contact your bank.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fyfe of the City of London Police said: “The sheer number of reports that we have received over the past three days is concerning and reports continue to be made. We are warning the public to be vigilant and not click on links or attachments from unknown recipients or in unsolicited emails.”

If you have been affected by this, or any other scam, report it to Action Fraud by visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk

Overnight on Wednesday 8th into Thursday 9th in the Netley / Hamble / Bursledon area a number of vehicles have had items taken from them. Some of these vehicles where unlocked. Some cash and other items of value where taken from these vehicles.

One person was arrested, however, it is highly likely this is not the end of the problem as it is common for these offenders to work in groups.

Please beware and be sure to lock your vehicles having removed all valuables.

There have been similar incidents in the Hedge End / West End and Botley.

Please report any incidents or concerns to us on 101.
